Try out Romans 1:1-7. Verses 1 and 7 are Paul's formulaic greeting, but 2-6 are something very deep and worth chewing on as we discuss the gospel.

Thanks for the thoughts. Could it be that the Gospel is the introduction of Jesus to a world lost? Jesus was the bridge that allowed the reestablishment of fellowship with the Father. Perhaps the Gospel begins with the acceptance of the Father's introduction of Jesus. If we look at Scripture through the eyes of Jesus, could it be we see the Gospel differently? Just a few thoughts and questions. Thanks for you insight.

It seems to me, the possibility exists that we analyze things at an excessively granular level.

In the absence of the Text, the gospel message Paul preached must have been simpler.

If the "gospel that Jesus preached when He was on earth" is the kingdom of God, then it IS the eternal good news.

Sometimes I wonder, though, if "gospel" was a technical term for them like it is for us. That is, take the passage in Revelation. Couldn't it just be "the eternal good news," not necessarily referring to the same "gospel" that Jesus preached when He was on earth?

Not a quarrel, just a query.
