Comments, Mobile Theme, Etc.

First, a question:

[poll id=”3″]

Here are the relative advantages, as I see them:

WordPress

* You can click on link in Recent Comments and go straight to the comment, not just to the post.

* The most recent comment is always at the bottom of the page.

* Cleaner interface

* Loads faster

IntenseDebate

* You can subscribe via email to all comments, not just to comments on posts where you’ve posted.

How to get all the comments even without IntenseDebate

If you have an RSS reader, such as Google Reader, you can subscribe to all the comments in that reader. The feed is: /comments/feed/

In Google Reader, just click “Add a Subscription” in the upper lefthand corner, and insert that link. That’s it. You’ll receive all comments in your reader automatically. And if you click on a comment, you’ll be instantly taken to that comment in this blog, making responding very easy.

If you’re not familiar with RSS readers, you need to be. These free readers will download posts from blogs and other services in real time, saving you the trouble of clicking over here to see whether anything new has been posted. That’s especially useful for blogs that don’t post daily.

Here’s a very short introduction:

It also works for online newspapers, magazines, and such. It’s how I read my local paper and the sports section from the Birmingham News.  It’s how I keep up with dozens of other blogs and news sources.

You can download Google Reader free at www.google.com/reader. It’s pretty self-explanatory, and Google offers lots of guidance. There are lots of other ways to read RSS feeds, and maybe some readers will want to recommend their favorite.

Mobile Theme

For those readers who like to read OneInJesus on an iPhone or other mobile device, I think I’ve fixed the mobile theme. It should look the same as before. Not sure what went wrong, but I think I worked around the problem. Let me know if you have problems.

    I appreciate all your hard work here at your blog Jay. You’re an example for all of us small-timers. Kepp up the good work!

    I like the Intense Debate ability to reply to a specific comment but it’s just too difficult to find new comments.
