On Hiatus, Continued

I’ve been on blog hiatus for the last several days. But I’ll be back — Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.

It’s been an interesting experience. The pace of adding new email subscribers is actually up. Evidently people enjoy my writing more when I don’t write. Or something like that …

More than 100 new email subscribers have joined in just 2012 — so far. I’ve even added about 50 new Google Readers subscribers this year. That’s encouraging. (Maybe the pace would pick up even more if I wrote even less …) And I’ve had several new Facebook friends join — over 50 this year — but some of those may be real, you know, friends who don’t read my stuff (as though a friend might not read my stuff …)

So I’ve been fighting a virus and something called trochanteric bursitis — which is quite painful and requires the expenditure of large amounts of time with medical professionals. They are all very fine people, but they are not God — and the trips to the doctor are taking away from my time with God and the keyboard (very closely related, when things go well).

Meanwhile, I’m the busiest I’ve ever been at work — which beats not being busy enough, which I’ve also tried and did not enjoy. Too busy is better, but too busy is still too busy. I’m worn slap dab out (does “slap dab” communicate outside of West Alabama?)

I’m the chairman of my law firm, and we just completed a merger with a firm in Columbus, Mississippi — with some very fine folks I’m very proud to be associated with, but that on top of client work, being ill, and elder work has about gotten the best of me. Something had to give, and blogging gave.

But it’s been a painful trial to be away from the keyboard for this long — although I did very much need the break. Meanwhile, one grateful client has given me tickets to the Alabama – LSU game Saturday. So I’ll be spending the weekend in Lousiana with my wife and another couple.

Tiger is actual size. Really.
(But the stadium is shrunk for the sake of the picture.)

I really enjoy football road trips, and Baton Rouge is as good as they come (short of the BCS Championship, of course). LSU fans are intense — intense fans and intense partiers — and it’s a great city to visit.

Meanwhile, things are starting to turn around with my health, work, church, and all. (And being a fan of the 8 – 0 Crimson Tide has been a great stress reducer. I strongly recommend it.) I’ll be back at it soon, but it’ll be a few days yet.

But, let’s face it, if we beat LSU Saturday, I’m going to be insufferable for a few days, and you really wouldn’t want be around all my strutting and bragging. And if we were to lose, well, you really wouldn’t want to be around me.

    From Larry Cheek:

“Great, Jay is still kicking, I sure hope that you can kick that illness that is attacking you. I did not even think about subscribing to email, it seems that it gets filled up faster than I can deal with it already. Two good events happened today 1 found out that you are planning to be back with us, 2 today I got my 50 ppm printer going again and plan to print more copies of your ebooks to distribute to friends that don’t have computers. I sure have missed you !!!!”
