Merry Christmas!

And many thanks to the readers for sticking with me in 2013, through all sorts of computer and health issues.

Spending time with one’s grandson over the Christmas holidays makes Suessian rhymes irresistible.

I don’t know why, but these last few weeks, the readership is up fairly dramatically. I wish I knew what I was doing right so maybe I could do it again — but I’ve had several of the highest hit counts in the history of the blog in the last month.

On the health front, I’m still recovering from surgery — too slowly. I still need a cane and have to take pain meds (although much less than immediately after surgery). I’ve had a series of complications to fight through. And I still need too much sleep. But with prayer and the doctors’ diligence, things should be much better next week.

And maybe at some point I’ll have the energy to finish N.T. Wright’s Paul and the Faithfulness of God (it’s a long book).

Enjoy your Christmas — and never forget who the holiday is about.

Christmas is all about Him,everything is all about Him!! Thank you Lord for the blessings we have through Christ, please help us to be a blessing to those around us!

Jay, as to your readership being up, I believe one reason is that you are very fair and open to all; to those who are more conservative, and to the more liberal. Your blog and and the blog of Richard Beck, stand out as truly open forums. I am sure that you and Richard disagree here and there, but that is what freedom in Christ is all about. You both serve a tremendous need within the CoC tradition.

I pray for your health; post-surgery is not easy.

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Jay. Praying for good health and God’s richest blessings on you and your family in 2014. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and continuing to challenge us to think!

  4. Grizz says:

    Jay,

Merry Christmas! I pray that your healing pace increases and that your joy in the Lord will spur a renewed energy level. This blog is sometimes pretty picky, but that is what studying together is about … learning to blend and sometimes discard beliefs that fail the ‘sniff’ test in the court of the opinions and reasonings of many brothers and sisters. You get us thinking and then allow us to explore that thinking. The first part is a lot more common than the second part of that.

If I could give you anything at all for Christmas, it would be someone in your own congregation who is looking for a mentor … because they would do well to find one like you, but even more because it would do you the most good to add another potential replacement for the current group of elders. There are few things more important than bringing someone to Christ and then making them into disciples of the Lord who are ready to replace us in our roles in the Body.

I am sure you are already doing some of this – with many of us here if not also at your home congregation. God forbid we should any of us die without passing the torch on to the next generation whom we have helped to disciple and develop into the functional roles we are currently filling in the Body.

May God richly bless you and your loved ones with the Spirit and the image of our Lord Jesus Christ,

    Grizz

Merry Christmas! Thanks for what you do and how you do it.

I want to add that your readership may be up because there is content in what you have to say. Unlike Facebook which I have begun calling Burma Shave signs by electronics, you present food for thought and also offer a place to send back thoughts in turn. Here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas.

  7. Thanks for keeping the welcome mat out, Jay. Have a magnificent Christmas!

  8. Skip says:

I first heard of Jay Guin from a fellow traveler at a Tulsa Workshop several years ago. I’m glad he recommended Jay as one who loved Jesus and loved truth and loved others. I agree.
