One Response to Passion 2015

My wife and I got to be at Passion this year as ‘door holders’. It’s from PS 84:10. . .
The previous evening and during this day the arena was filled with students and there were various speakers and worship sessions. This particular evening, they had been off in remote conference rooms in community (small) groups, where they had been discussing the fact that in many parts of the world, worshiping out loud and with the freedom and ‘style’ they were accustomed to was illegal or nonexistent.
To help illustrate the message, they were asked to walk back to the arena silently. . . Not quietly, but silently – no talking, no noise. . . At first there were a few here and a few there, and the lack of sound was not really noticeable. Then as more and more of the kids arrived, the silence began to really impact everyone.
Eventually the entire arena was full and the evening session started with this video and the resulting 55 minutes or so is the ‘acoustic’ worship session linked here.
My wife and I have been on a journey and really enjoy Crowder, Tomlin, and all these worship leaders, but we still worship back at home in a small, a cappella group. Needless to say, this particular session was moving and powerful, and I still think back to this evening.
“It is well” was so powerful and to this day, the song just tears me to pieces. Imagine 14,000 voices singing. . . I’m not sure if the video / link captures the moment when the worship leader paused, and we all sing the harmony line (tenor). . Standing in the arena, singing and hearing 4 part harmony was as close to heaven as I can imagine.
We have already planned to attend this year in Houston.
We discovered Ben Stewart and his Breakaway Ministries app (his podcasts are really good) – he has roughly 12k students meeting once a week at Texas A&M. We also enjoyed listening to all of the other speakers throughout the conference. Passion Conference coupled with this blog and your e-books have really helped keep me from the brink!
