CPAs for Missionaries

I receive regular requests from missionaries for a referral to a qualified CPA with experience in missionary tax returns. It’s a complex, difficult speciality, and one that doesn’t pay that well. CPAs have to master this field out of passion for missions.

The following are CPAs who’ve posted here saying that this is what they do. I make no recommendation, and I’m not familiar with all the CPAs listed. Therefore, you should make certain that these or any other CPAs you choose to use are familiar with the material posted here on the peculiar tax problems of missionaries.

And never, ever use a tax preparer who is not a CPA. Most CPAs don’t know this material. No storefront services do. Find someone who can help you do it right.

Here’s the list so far. If any other CPAs wish to be listed, I’m glad to add them.

Thanks for letting us know. I’ve added you to the list.

We have been missionaries overseas for the past 3 years. We were told by companies such as H&R Block that we did not need to file taxes for the first 2 years. However in 2013 we earned enough to file taxes, so we plan to file this year. We also want to return home to the U.S. and buy a house, which requires 2 years of tax returns. We need help, please let us know if you or someoen else can assist us.

    Thank you and God bless!

  6. Jay, please consider adding Mitch Monroe of Lubbock, Texas to your list. Mitch’s company, Assist Financial Services (, is geared specifically to serving ministers and missionaries in the churches of Christ. They specialize in serving those among us who serve others. My wife and I have been clients for nearly ten years. My parents (lifetime missionaries and minister) have been clients for decades.
Not only will Assist work on tax returns, but they offer financial services to churches and ministers which help us get back to the “real work” of ministering to people. They are our insurance agent, retirement accounts manager, and investor.
They are a thoroughly Christian company. Mitch is an active member at the Green Lawn church of Christ in Lubbock. Sometimes working with people “from church” means a sacrifice in quality that you hope is made up in relationship. Mitch and Co. are very professional and receive our wholehearted endorsement.
