Virus Question from a Reader

A reader emailed me to let me know that he is getting spam that suggests it’s from me and Al Maxey. I suspect the virus is not really from my computer, as I run the latest version of the Norton Security Suite and don’t have this particular reader in my email Contacts. But to make sure, I thought I’d ask if anyone else is getting spam or virus messages suggesting they came from me?

Not me. I get your blogs and comments as I requested and I get Al’s Reflections but that’s it.

    Royce

  2. James says:

    None here from either source.

(using both Win & Mac, if that helps)

  3. Kevin says:

    Both good for me.

  4. X-Ray says:

If it appears to be coming from your e-mail address, then it could have been forged. (Regular e-mail wasn’t designed with security and proper credentials in mind.)

  5. Emmett says:

Hackers routinely flood our local isp with spam using email addresses local to their server. Their spam filter catches 99.9% of them. But I see their sent from address when I empty the filter. Often my own address is both the sender and recipient…This happens at the isp level, my pc never sees it.

  6. Alan says:

When others receive spam email appearing to come your email address, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your computer or email account was hacked. The hacker could have obtained your email address from someone with whom you have exchanged email.
