The commenting software is working again. You should be able to post new comments with no problems.
Unfortunately, the last 6 months of comments are in limbo. The webhosting service is hoping to retrieve them tonight.
The comment database was pretty badly corrupted due to a plugin installed to protect against malware. Well, we got no malware … just a plugin that corrupted the comment database.
I’ll post something as soon as I know whether we can recover the last several weeks of comments. And, yes, I’m pretty upset because we had an incredible conversation going on that we were just completing.
Jay,
I don’t know about others but I save a copy of any post into works or ms word before I post it, therefore I can retrieve all that I have posted. I got into a practice of that early because many times I would spend a great deal of time thinking and as I am a slow typist then as I attempted to post all would be lost. If I had saved it, all I had to do is copy and paste it back into the comments.
Jay,
I am glad that we did not lose the study of John’s Gospel. I have wanted to incorporate that study into a local study group, have not been successful yet. Would there be an easier way to have a permanent copy on my computer than copying and pasting each session to files. Like being able to download all at once?
Thanks, Larry. I wasn’t completely sure the comments were fixed until you posted!
I have everyone’s comments in emails, but they are not easily put back into the commenting system. Oh, except I don’t have mine. WordPress doesn’t email me my own comments.
Jay,
Sounds like you should make your own copies to. To not have your comments will be almost as great a loss as all of the rest of us put together.
Larry,
I don’t know of any shortcut for downloading the John posts. I’ve copied to links to the “CBS Bible Classes” link at the top of the page. Should be much easier than the links in the right column (which I’m taking down in a week or two).
Maybe someone with actual computer skills could figure out a way to extract the text and consolidate it automatically, but I typed all those posts straight into WordPress — which is true of 95% of what I write. There’s no MS Word version.
It is sad to have lost the comments. I think we had a groundbreaking conversation about homosexuality and Churches of Christ.
I still have the comments — all except my own. I’ll experiment with putting them back up when I get a little free time.
