I get emails —
A friend of mine is looking for any suggestions for possible correspondence-based Bible studies or courses that might lend themselves to a prison ministry. Any suggestions, leads, or websites to explore would be appreciated.
I figured that either you or the One in Jesus community would have some of the best recommendations out there.
Thanks so much for your help!
I have good friends who are active in jail ministry, but I have no such experiences or materials to share myself.

I know many who have had great success in prison ministries using the World Bible School series of studies. You can get information about this series at http://www.worldbibleschool.net/. This is the information page for those who want to use the series. It provides links to instructions for effective methods. There are other pages where students can actually study the lessons online. The majority of students, however, study by correspondence with live teachers.
WBS has students in all of the 200+ nations of the world. The program is not only vast, it is highly successful. Thousands of baptisms result from these studies each year. The lessons are fairly comprehensive, well written in simple language, and Christ-centered. The English language courses (several other languages are available) use the World Bible Translation Center Easy to Read translation because so many people have English as a 2nd language. This is also good for native-born English speakers who have low reading skills, as many prisoners do.
This book, Prisoners in the Bible, is written for people who are incarcerated:

Each chapter includes questions that could be used for personal reflection or group discussion.
The best method is to have Christian folks go into the prisons and study together. The Church of Christ is a leader in doing this.
Most in prison do not have access to computers. or modern technology.
They do have time and opportunity for personal study but the teachers must pass a background check and follow the rules very closely or be denied entrance.
The Bible is the best study material and every inmate has permission to have one but all do not.
You should check out “Resources” at Prison Fellowship.

Zach,
What a great thought and lesson to put in a book.
Should be taught in every church as well as for those incarcerated.
In prison at study sessions that is brought up pretty often. Sometimes seriously and some more like I have joined a pretty wild bunch of folks that have experienced prison including our Christ.
Looking at that experience with those eyes keeps lots from suicide and brings many to Christ.
I’ll be ordering some. Thanks for writing it!
