Reader in Search of a Congregation

Susan Durette asked,

Are there any recommendations for churches in Albuquerque, NM or the Tijeras, NM area from your readers?  I would appreciate any comments.  Thank you.

What say you?

That’s a really good question. Could I get any recommendations at the Sioux City, Iowa area? A more important question is, what do you look for in a healthy church?

It occurs to me that most of the time, when we are “looking for a church”, we begin by considering our existing doctrinal positions and our personal preferences and then start shopping for a group who matches us. While this is the most natural thing in the world, it is also the most NATURAL thing in the world.

What if we had looked for a spouse using the same rationale? I look over the single people in my city for a spouse who likes the same meals I like, who watches the same sort of movies, who has the same political views as I do and comes from the same part of the country. I shop for a spouse who has the exact same philosophy as I do about roles in marriage, about sex, and about how to discipline children. When I meet a friendly young lady whom I might consider, I go through my questionnaire of the above issues with her and see if we might make a good match. If she scores at least 85%, then I propose.

May I ask if any of Jay’s readers found their spouse by a similar method? Do you wish you had?

Mountainside Church of Christ…many of the people really care for one another. We’ve been there about a year and a half.
