Amazing Grace/Churches of Christ in Decline?: Transitional Issues, Part 2.5

Steve Puckett forwarded this article from Christianity Today to me called “4 myths about reaching the unchurched—and 4 ways to draw them in.

Pastors want to know what’s working in evangelism, not theories or ideas from out on the fringe, but news from the front lines. We need insights that are new but tried, and transferable.

So here’s a report from the front lines at Mecklenburg Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Some quick background on Meck: Our church has grown in eight years from a single family to nearly 5,000 weekly attenders. More than 80 percent of our growth comes from those previously unchurched. Every person who has been baptized, every new member, and every attendee at a discipleship event is surveyed so we can verify that statement.

This is good stuff! Click and read.

    Very interesting!

  2. Nick Gill says:

Doesn't Jeff Walling preach in Charlotte?

  3. Nick Gill says:

:) When you get aggravated with me, you can cast some of the blame his way as well.

John Dobbs might have brought me to One In Jesus, but Jeff Walling brought me to JESUS!

He baptized me at Lipscomb in February of 1994.

    Nick,

Yes, at the Providence Rd CoC.

  5. Alan says:

I'm sure you and I have far more in common than differences. At the moment only one difference comes to mind and I'm not about to throw you under the bus over that one!

I was a member of the Providence Rd CoC from 1977 to 1982…. worked the bus ministry, taught teens, etc. I was gone before Walling arrived.
